The $399 iPad 2
Yep, you can get an iPad 2 for $399. If you’re in the tablet market and you’re not buying an iPad 2 at that price, you must really hate Apple.

Obligatory iPad 3 predictions
After weeks of iPad rumors, I’m looking forward to March 8th when every tech blog in existence runs an article about how Apple dropped the ball. Before I pen my “Apple sucks” manifesto, I present a list of my predictions for the March 7th iPad 3 announcement. Retina display This is pretty much a given. As would be expected, the GPU will be greatly improved to take advantage of the fancy display.

HTC wakes up.
Pocket-lint interviews Kouji Kodera: Sense UI got too complicated. “From the original Sense up to Sense 3.5 we added too many things. The original concept was that it had to be simple and it had to be easy to use and we had that philosophy, but over time it got cluttered” If you’ve ever used a Sense 1.0 device, you know it’s incredibly dull. Having used every version from 1.0 to 3.

What do you write on a daily basis?
All this self loathing for not being able to write anything has me wondering. What kind of things do you use your notebooks for on a daily basis? I see plenty of people listing their #dailyarsenal on Twitter and I always wonder what they use it for. So tell me, what do you use your notebooks for? Are you journaling all day? Jotting random notes? Formulating your latest plot to take over the world?

Old Spice, you slay me.
Want to see some genius viral marketing? Look no further than the Old Spice Youtube channel. Their crazy commercials are one thing, but carrying that over to the web = win. Kudos to Old Spice for capturing the attention of a lot of Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube fans. Will it sell more Old Spice? Only time will tell.

Advertising to a captive audience
I’m catching up on “V” on the ABC app for the iPad and guess what I can’t do? I can’t flip to another app while the commercials are on like I would on my PC. That seems like a rather strong reason for the other networks to get their own apps out, or at least push Hulu and Fancast to get free & subscription apps on this device. Can’t change the channel, can’t move off the screen, the worst I can do is put the iPad down or mute it which isn’t worth the hassle for 30 seconds.

Tired of the iPad yet?
Lately you’ve probably been inundated with iPad news, reviews, comments, hatred, etc. Allow me to toss a few more words onto the pile. When the tech blogs started reporting that Apple was making a tablet, I had very high hopes. Then Steve showed us what the iPad would be, and I lost my enthusiasm; now I own one. Yes, it’s been a roller coaster ride. After reading so much criticism of the iPad’s shortcomings, I feel compelled to quickly cover the most common complaints as I feel they affect me.

Mmmm Vacumatic!
There seems to be a rather ravenous bunch in the fountain pen world that simply must collect every Parker Vacumatic ever made. Luckily, I haven’t been bitten by this bug yet but I now have my first working Parker Vacumatic and I thought I’d share it with you. I picked this Vac up at an antique store in Houghton Lake Michigan, it came in a pen box with another Vacumatic, a Wahl Eversharp with a nice flexy #2 nib, and a broken Eversharp pen/pencil set.

Review: Custom ground italic Pilot Varsity
Did you read that title and say “What? Who grinds disposable pens?” Good, that was the point. I myself had never considered messing with the Pilot Varsity but if you think about it, what better pen to practice on? They’re only a couple bucks a piece and if you ruin one, who cares? But this isn’t about me trying my hand at grinding, this is a plug for the work of Dan Smith.
