Tap the tiny links.
Of all the major changes Apple made to the app store in iOS 6, this one is driving me nuts. When I update an app, I like to check out the change log before installing. The tiny text link is frustratingly hard to hit on on the iPhone screen and I end up opening the app description. As you can imagine, the problem doesn’t exist on the larger iPad screen.

EDC: Spyderco Sage 1
I’m a collector by nature meaning I find something I like and buy a lot of them. Some of these fascinations stick around, most of them depart as quickly as they arrived. I thought I’d start a series of posts called “My favorite things” to highlight some of the things that stuck around and that I use every day. I’ve had pocket knives since I was a kid. I was raised in a home where a pocket knife was something a man carried and to this day I believe that every man should have one in his pocket.

Is this where we’re at?
Are you angry that Apple is calling their new device the iPhone 5? If so, you need a vacation. Today my Twitter and RSS feeds are bursting with discussion about the name of an unreleased smart phone. A name. Is there nothing else to talk about? Are we so desensitized to how amazing these devices have become that we’re writing 300 word blog posts about a naming convention?

Longbows are allowed
I love this weapons policy from the Michigan Renaissance Festival The Festival bans guns on our premises. Longbows are allowed as long as they are not strung, arrows with tips are not allowed unless you are competing in the longbow competition that day. Swords, knives, dirks and daggers must be completely sheathed and peace-tied. Axes, claymores, maces, antique firearms, pikes and halberds are NOT allowed on the Festival site. No drawing of any weapon at any time.

Kudos to Evernote, if anything makes me want an overpriced Moleskine, it’s that beautiful debossed cover. What can I say, I’m a sucker for pretty things. Evernote just announced these notebooks to go along with a new “Page Camera” feature in their iOS app. They claim the special dotted graph or lined paper helps the app adjust skew which will help with OCR to make your handwritten notes searchable. There’s also a feature that uses “Smart Stickers” to allow you to tag pictures automatically or even send them to specific notebooks.

My new Retro 51
I have too many pens and I don’t need any more. Anyway, here’s the Retro 51 Vintage Metalsmith Jefferson that I ordered from JetPens as soon as they got them in. The Metalsmith series are standard size Tornados with custom metal barrels so there’s no surprises in the size, weight, or refill quality. As you can see, it has a nice brushed metal finish to go with the textured barrel.
